Abstract

N. fowleri belongs to the genus Naegleria, family Vahlkampfiidae in the class Heterolobosea. It is a free-living protist that feeds mostly on bacteria. N. fowleri has a simple life cycle that includes asexual reproduction by binary fission, however its ability to respond to changing environments and remain viable is both complex and intriguing.
