Abstract

This short overview discusses the fundamental elements of moving fluids in lab-on-a-chip (LOC) systems. Liquid flow in such systems is usually either single-phase channel flow or droplet flow on a surface (or between two surfaces). A primary characteristic of all flows considered here is that they are laminar flows, which provide a series of benefits as well as some challenges.
