Recent studies have provided remarkable insights to our general understanding of the epidemiology, genetics, and ecology of foodborne and waterborne bacterial pathogens. Some of these bacteria have recently been reclassified with updated nomenclature; identification methods have also improved substantially with more extensive use of molecular approaches. The bulk of information generated in different areas of research in these pathogenic organisms have been summarized to provide an over all impression of the progress made. Future directions for research into these organisms have also been discussed with a view to understanding general themes of bacterial pathogens, that cause foodborne and waterborne diseases. In addition, available preventive measures to reduce incidences of disease due to these organisms have been discussed read more ...
