Topoisomerase alters the supercoiling of DNA. Topoisomerase cuts the DNA. Topoisomerase type I cuts one strand and topoisomerase type II cuts both strands. Topoisomerase regulates DNA supercoiling. Topoisomerase aids the transcription and replication of DNA. As well as topoisomerase I and topoisomerase II, there is topoisomerase III and topoisomerase IV.
Topoisomerase
Topoisomerase: Topoisomerase is an enzyme that alters the supercoiling of double-stranded DNA. Topoisomerase acts by transiently cutting one or both strands of the DNA. Topoisomerase type I cuts one strand whereas topoisomerase type II cuts both strands of the DNA. Topoisomerase relaxes the coil and extends the DNA molecule. Topoisomerase helps regulate DNA supercoiling. Topoisomerase aids the transcription and replication of DNA.As well as topoisomerase I and topoisomerase II, there is topoisomerase III and topoisomerase IV. Topoisomerase III may regulate recombination. Topoisomerase IV regulates the segregation of newly replicated chromosomes.
