  • Archives of Microbiology
    Archives of Microbiology publishes papers on all areas of basic research in microbiology. Research papers must make a significant and original contribution to microbiology and be of interest to a broad readership. The results of any experimental approach that meets these objectives are welcome, particularly biochemical, molecular genetic, physiological, and/or physical investigations into microbial cells and their interactions with their environments, including their eukaryotic hosts. Mini-reviews in areas of special topical interest and papers on medical microbiology, ecology and systematics, including description of novel taxa, are also published. Theoretical papers and those that report analysis of 'mining' of data are acceptable in principle if new information, interpretation, or hypotheses emerge.

  • Archives of Virology
    Archives of Virology publishes original contributions from all branches of research on viruses, virus-like agents, and virus infections of humans, animals, plants, insects, and bacteria. Coverage spans a broad spectrum of topics, from descriptions of newly discovered viruses, to studies of virus structure, composition, and genetics, to studies of virus interactions with host cells, organisms and populations. Studies employ molecular biologic, molecular genetics, and current immunologic and epidemiologic approaches. Contents include studies on the molecular pathogenesis, pathophysiology, and genetics of virus infections in individual hosts, and studies on the molecular epidemiology of virus infections in populations. Also included are studies involving applied research such as diagnostic technology development, monoclonal antibody panel development, vaccine development, and antiviral drug development.

  • BMC Microbiology
    BMC Microbiology is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in analytical and functional studies of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, viruses and small parasites, as well as host and therapeutic responses to them, and their interaction with the environment.

  • Canadian Journal of Microbiology
    Published since 1954, this monthly journal contains new research in the field of microbiology including applied microbiology and biotechnology; microbial structure and function; fungi and other eucaryotic protists; infection and immunity; microbial ecology; physiology, metabolism and enzymology; and virology, genetics, and molecular biology. It also publishes review articles and notes on an occasional basis, contributed by recognized scientists worldwide.

  • Cell
    Cell publishes findings of unusual significance in any area of experimental biology, including but not limited to cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, immunology, virology and microbiology, cancer, human genetics, systems biology, signaling, and disease. The basic criterion for considering papers is whether the results provide significant conceptual advances into, or raise provocative questions and hypotheses regarding, an interesting biological question.   • Cellular Microbiology
    Cellular Microbiology aims to publish significant contributions on the intersection of microbial and host-cell biology that strongly advance understanding of unique biological processes and mechanisms. The scope includes the host cell responses and interactions elicited by prokaryotic, viral and eukaryotic microorganisms that illuminate exploitation of host cell structures, function and signaling pathways, and may include modulation or alteration of immune responses. Mechanistic insight obtained through robust biochemical, genetic, cellular, and bioimaging technologies are expected to support observational data. In addition to mammalian and plant systems, papers addressing other hosts such as invertebrate systems are encouraged. Because viruses are inherently dependent upon the host cell, virology-based submissions to Cellular Microbiology should advance knowledge of the interaction of viruses and host cells.

    Clinical Microbiology and Infection (CMI) is a monthly publication in English of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and publishes peer-reviewed papers that present basic and applied research relevant to therapy and diagnostics in the fields of microbiology, infectious diseases, virology, parasitology, immunology and epidemiology.

  • FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology
    The editors of FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology aim to publish outstanding primary Research Articles and MiniReviews reporting on hypothesis- or discovery-driven studies relating to infection, infection control and their molecular and cellular correlates. FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology will also consider outstanding vaccine-related studies and molecular diagnostic and epidemiology studies that are focused on the infectious agent or the infection process.

  • FEMS Microbiology Ecology

    This journal publishes reviews dealing with all aspects of microbiology that have not been surveyed recently. They should be devoted to topics of current interest and may be of a speculative and selective nature or they may provide comprehensive, critical and authoritative coverage. Reviews should provide new perspectives and critical, detailed discussions of significant trends in the areas being reviewed. Historical analyses of important subjects will also be accepted. All reviews should address both specialists and the general reader. Whenever possible, reviews should be put into the framework of general microbiology and biology. Manuscripts of lectures delivered at symposia that do not review the related field are not acceptable, nor are unevaluated compilations of the literature.

  • Geomicrobiology Journal
    Geomicrobiology Journal is a unified vehicle for research and review articles in this rapidly growing field. Articles deal with microbial transformations of materials composing the earth's crust, including oceans, seas, lakes, bottom sediments, soils, mineral deposits, and rocks, and the geological impact these transformations have to present or have had over geologic time. In this context, the functions of bacteria, yeasts, filamentous fungi, micro-algae, protoists, and related micro-organisms as geomechanical or geochemical agents are examined.

Areas of interest include infections caused by pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and parasites; mechanisms of pathogenicity; interactions of virulence factors with host cells; host resistance, inflammation, and susceptibility to infection; the immunology of infectious diseases; development and evaluation of vaccines against nonviral pathogens; and the genomes of pathogenic bacteria.

    Infection, Genetics and Evolution - the Journal of Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics in Infectious Diseases (MEEGID) - aims to be the forum for developing the "Integrated Genetic Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases" approach. The journal welcomes articles dealing with the genetics of hosts, pathogens and vectors in relation to infection and disease manifestation.

  • International Journal for Parasitology
    The International Journal for Parasitology publishes the results of original research in all aspects of basic and applied parasitology, including all the fields covered by its Specialist Editors, and ranging from parasites and host-parasite relationships of intrinsic biological interest to those of social and economic importance in human and veterinary medicine and agriculture. Original research includes the development of novel and innovative concepts and ideas, as well as experimental and observational science that raises new hypotheses. Because of its breadth of discipline coverage, the aims and significance of all contributions should be made clear to readers who are not expert in the particular subject of papers. In applied parasitology, it will tend to favour contributions of broader significance to the subject rather than narrow, highly specialised applications.

    The International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents provides comprehensive and up-to-date peer reviewed reference information on the physical, pharmacological, in vitro and clinical properties of individual antimicrobial agents (antiviral agents, antiparasitic agents, antibacterial agents, antifungal agents, immunotherapeutic agents, etc.). In addition, the journal signals new trends and developments in the field through highly authoritative review articles on antimicrobial agents, immunomodulators and immunotherapy. Special attention is given to articles providing insight into the problems of antimicrobial resistance, local as well as world-wide, both in the hospital and in the community.     International Journal of Food Microbiology publishes contributions dealing with all aspects of food microbiology. This journal also publishes special issues of selected, peer-reviewed papers from suitable meetings, workshops, conferences, etc, in the field of food microbiology.

  • International Journal of Medical Microbiology
    Pathogen genome sequencing projects have provided a wealth of data that need to be set in context to pathogenicity and the outcome of infections. In addition, the interplay between a pathogen and its host cell has become increasingly important to understand and interfere with diseases caused by microbial pathogens. IJMM meets these needs by focussing on genome and proteome analyses, studies dealing with the molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity and the evolution of pathogenic agents, the interactions between pathogens and host cells ("cellular microbiology"), and molecular epidemiology. To help the reader keeping up with the rapidly evolving new findings in the field of medical microbiology, IJMM publishes original articles, case studies and topical, state-of-the-art mini-reviews in a well balanced fashion.

  • International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology
    International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology (IJSEM), formerly International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology (IJSB), is the official journal of record for novel prokaryotic taxa. Now in its 57th year (before 1966 it was known as the International Bulletin of Bacteriological Nomenclature and Taxonomy), the journal is the cornerstone of the dynamic field of microbial systematics. IJSEM publishes papers dealing with all phases of the systematics of prokaryotes, yeasts and yeast-like organisms, including taxonomy, nomenclature, identification, phylogeny, evolution, biodiversity, characterization and culture preservation. Its scope covers phylogenetic and evolutionary aspects of all micro-organisms, including the protists such as protozoa and algae, and it also publishes molecular environmental papers with a strong systematics content

    INTERNATIONAL MICROBIOLOGY is the new journal of the Spanish Society for Microbiology (SEM). It publishes original research papers, short communications, critical reviews and opinion letters dealing with all fields of microbiology and it addresses the international scientific community. The special fields covered are microorganisms (eukaryotes: protoctists, moulds, yeast; prokaryotes: bacteria, cyanobacteria, archaea; viruses, prions), microbial biology (physiology, ecology, morphology, taxonomy, genetics, pathogenesis) and microbial applications (environmental, soil, industrial, food, medical microbiology, biodeterioration, bioremediation, biotechnology). Papers related to microbial science on a worldwide basis are also considered.     Virology Journal is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that presents high-quality original research concerning viruses, and establishes a strategic alternative to the traditional virology communication process. Virology Journal will feature articles on human, animal, plant, insect, bacterial, and fungal viruses. The journal will also publish articles on molecular aspects of the control and prevention of viral infections with vaccines and antiviral agents and on the use of viruses as gene therapy vectors. The approaches and techniques used are expected to encompass many disciplines, including molecular genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cell biology, immunology, morphology, genetics and pathogenesis.

    La revue Virologie est destinée aux scientifiques - biologistes, médecins, pharmaciens, vétérinaires - intéressés par l'évolution rapide de la virologie et ses implications. Les textes doivent permettre de parfaire les connaissances de chacun dans tous les domaines de la virologie (humaine, animale, végétale, environnementale, fondamentale, appliquée...) et être accessibles au plus grand nombre, notamment à ceux qui ne sont pas spécialistes du sujet. Virologie publie en français des articles de synthèse (revues), des comptes rendus de congrès, des présentations de cas et des éditoriaux. Pour donner à la revue l'homogénéité nécessaire, nous demandons aux auteurs de bien vouloir respecter les impératifs de présentation des articles.

    Virus Research is a rapid publication journal for original papers on fundamental research concerning virus structure, replication, and pathogenesis. These include reports describing virus morphology, the function and antigenic analysis of virus structural components, virus genome structure and expression, analysis of virus replication processes, effects of viruses on their host cells, including oncogene activation and transduction, neoplastic transformation, and the pathogenesis of virus infections including tumour induction. The journal also publishes review articles on topics of current interest and occasional book reviews and meeting reports.

  • World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology
    World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology publishes refereed research papers, short communications, technical communications and review articles on all aspects of applied microbiology and biotechnology, including management of culture collections, foodstuffs and biological control agents. The Journal provides a forum for research work directed towards microbiological and biotechnological solutions to global problems, such as agriculture and food supplies and environmental issues including pollution and waste management. Because many global issues, for example improving crop productivity and public health, have more acute consequences in the developing world than elsewhere, the journal emphasizes the role of biotechnological advances for and from the developing world while encouraging contributions from all interested scientists.     Molecular Microbiology, the leading primary journal in microbial sciences, publishes research articles reporting the results of molecular studies of eukaryotic microorganisms and of prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea) and their viruses. Studies that include genetic, biochemical, biophysical, bioinformatic and structural analysis leading to a deeper understanding of the molecular principles underlying basic physiological processes or mechanisms are considered as potentially suitable for publication in the journal.

  • Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions
    A publication of the International Society for Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions. Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions (MPMI) publishes original, refereed research on the molecular biology and molecular genetics of pathological, symbiotic, and associative interactions of microbes with plants and insects with plants. MPMI publishes both fundamental and advanced applied research. In MPMI, "microbe" encompasses viruses, viroids, prokaryotes, fungi, oomycetes, nematodes, and insects. The term "molecular biology" includes studies on biochemical or biophysical mechanisms, genetics, genomics, and advanced microscopy. Molecular analysis of relevant factors in the plant alone, the microbe alone, or molecular analysis of components that affect or modulate plant-microbe interactions may be the subject of an MPMI paper.     Nature Structural and Molecular Biology is an integrated forum for structural and molecular studies. The journal places a strong emphasis on functional and mechanistic understanding of how molecular components in a biological process work together. Structural data may provide such insights, but they are not a pre-requisite for publication in the journal.

  • Nucleic Acids Research
    Nucleic Acids Research (NAR) publishes the results of leading edge research into physical, chemical, biochemical and biological aspects of nucleic acids and proteins involved in nucleic acid metabolism and/or interactions.
